The original idea for the restaurant was to name it "Shoots & Ladders". Mike's dad was a fireman for the City of Dayton and Missi's was a policeman for the City of Middletown. As brainstorming continued, the two realized they wanted to recognize and honor more heroes than just police and fire. Mike and Missi both worked for the Ohio Department of Corrections and felt that Corrections should be recognized. Prior to Corrections, Missi worked as a dispatcher. After Corrections, she spent ten years working in higher education, not to mention, she comes from a family of teachers, so it only felt natural to honor teachers. A couple of the colleges, where Missi was the Academic Dean, had nursing programs and she felt that nurses need to be recognized. Both Mike and Missi have uncles that were in the Armed Forces so honoring military was a must. A personal hero to Missi is her Veterinarian. Let's not forget about great moms & dads, neighbors, friends or complete strangers that come to the rescue. So, before it was all said and done, "Shoots & Ladders" become "Heroes", a place where ALL can be recognized and honored!
